Dear Doc,
I ask for your intervention. My humans have only provided me and a new two-year-old with this red mineral block in the pasture. All I taste is salt. Is there anything you can recommend that will help me perform like a champion and him grow strong teeth and bones?
Dutifully Yours,
Brittle and Stunty
Dear Brittle and Stunty,
Actually we do have a mineral made specifically for horses just like you. Depending upon your forage source, you can benefit from the Seminole Grass Balancer or Alfa Balancer. Why?
- The typical trace mineralized salt block provides only a fraction of a horse's trace mineral needs and does not provide the macro-minerals (except sodium and chlorine) and vitamin needs. Most trace mineralized salt blocks contain 95% or more salt and contain only a "trace" amount of minerals. Some minerals are essential components of vitamins, hormones, and amino acids.
- To ensure a horse's health, it is important to provide a well-balanced mineral supplement that is made for equines, containing all essential minerals. A 2:1 Calcium:Phosphorus ratio for horses on grass forage is extremely important, especially for young growing animals.
- Seminole Feed has Grass Balancer 16:8 and Alfa Balancer 12:12 horse minerals available in block and granular forms. These supplements provide the proper calcium to phosphorus ratio, and all other essential minerals and vitamins, for the specific roughage that is fed. Most horses need the Grass Balancer, but if feeding 51% or more of a diet in alfalfa (or any legume hay) then they need the Alfa Balancer.
I hope this helps, and don't forget to go to your local Seminole Dealer to purchase your bag of Seminole Grass Balancer.
